World Obesity Day Awareness Programme 2026

Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing observed World Obesity Day 2026 with an awareness programme organized by the Student Nurses Association (SNA) and B.Sc. Nursing III Semester students. The programme aimed to highlight the growing concern of obesity, particularly among children, and to promote preventive health practices.

World Obesity Day 2026 draws attention to the alarming rise in obesity rates, with India ranking second globally in childhood obesity. The programme emphasized the importance of awareness, early prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.


Programme Highlights

The session began with a welcome address delivered by Ms. Subashree D., B.Sc. Nursing III Semester, who greeted the participants and introduced the purpose of the programme.

An informative presentation on World Obesity Day was delivered by Ms. Merlo Daniya C., B.Sc. Nursing III Semester. She highlighted:

  • Current obesity statistics
  • The importance of observing World Obesity Day
  • Preventive measures and healthy diet practices
  • Complications associated with obesity

An interactive session followed, where students were encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts, making the programme engaging and informative.


Conclusion

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Deepika Nair, followed by the National Anthem.

The session successfully created awareness about obesity prevention and reinforced the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle among students.
