Focus: Prevention, nutrition, and early detection of anemia
In observance of World Anemia Day, a comprehensive awareness programme was organized by Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Kanyakumari Branch.
The programme was coordinated by the Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing in association with the Department of Paediatrics. The primary objective was to educate students on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of nutritional anemia. Approximately 200 students from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences actively participated.
The event began with a prayer by the College Choir. Dr. M. P. Kumar, President of IAP Kanyakumari, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by a special guest address by Dr. Thiraviam Mohan, Secretary of IMA Tamil Nadu, and a chief guest address by Dr. Suresh Balan, Past President of IAP.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Secretary of IAP, delivered an expert lecture covering current anemia statistics in India, common causes, prevention strategies for adolescents, and clinical management practices.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment focusing on iron-rich diets and lifestyle modifications, where prizes were awarded to active participants. Dr. Pradeep Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
