The Student Nurses Association (SNA) of Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing organized an awareness programme on 13th March 2026 in observance of World Cancer Day, aiming to promote awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and patient-centered care.
Significance of the Day
World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4 as a global initiative to raise awareness, improve education, and inspire action toward a cancer-free future.
The theme for World Cancer Day (2025–2027), “United by Unique,” emphasizes the individuality of each cancer journey while advocating for equitable, personalized care and highlighting the lived experiences of patients.
Programme Highlights
The programme was conducted by B.Sc. Nursing IV Year students at around 11:00 a.m. in the II Year classroom.
The session began with a welcome address by Ms. Soorya Pooja, B.Sc. Nursing IV Year, who greeted the participants and introduced the importance of the observance.
A poster presentation was delivered by Ms. Nishma Shalu, B.Sc. Nursing IV Year, highlighting:
- The significance of World Cancer Day
- The importance of early detection and awareness
- Key messages related to prevention and care
Conclusion
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Mobisha, B.Sc. Nursing IV Year, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers.
The activity effectively enhanced awareness about cancer and reinforced the importance of early diagnosis, prevention, and compassionate care.
