Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, in association with Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, celebrated International Women’s Day on 9th March 2026 with great enthusiasm and a spirit of empowerment at the Dr. JMT Auditorium.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, recognizes the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while promoting gender equality. The 2026 theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. for all Women and Girls,” emphasizes the need to eliminate barriers such as discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, and harmful social norms that hinder the progress of women and girls.


Programme Highlights

The programme commenced at 3:30 p.m. with a prayer song by the College Choir, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The Bible reading was led by Mrs. Pearline, Nursing Tutor, and the opening prayer was offered by Dr. Golden Catherine, Professor. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Mr. Binni, Professor.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Maya from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, who emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and equality in modern society.

Dr. Sarayu Priya M, Principal of the College of Nursing, introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Anitha Natarajan, who delivered an inspiring address on the significance of International Women’s Day and the role of women in nation-building. The Chief Guest was honoured with a token of appreciation.
