International Women’s Day Celebration 2026

Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, in association with Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, celebrated International Women’s Day on 9th March 2026 at the Dr. JMT Auditorium with great enthusiasm and dignity.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, recognizes the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while promoting gender equality. The theme for 2026, “Rights. Justice. Action. for all Women and Girls,” emphasizes the need to dismantle barriers such as discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, and harmful social norms that hinder the progress of women and girls.


Programme Highlights

The programme commenced at 3:30 p.m. with a prayer song by the College Choir, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The Bible reading was conducted by Mrs. Pearline, Nursing Tutor, and the opening prayer was led by Dr. Golden Catherine, Professor. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Mr. Binni, Professor.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Maya from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, who highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and equality in today’s society.

  • Mrs. Beena Sabu, Correspondent, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing
  • Mrs. G. Vanammal, Nursing Superintendent

Dr. Sarayu Priya M, Principal of the College of Nursing, introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Anitha Natarajan, who delivered an inspiring address on the significance of International Women’s Day and the role of women in shaping society. The Chief Guest was honoured with a token of appreciation.


Special Segments

The celebration included a “Tribute to Leadership and Partnership” programme, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony by the dignitaries.

Cultural and engaging activities added vibrancy to the event:

  • A song performance by Mrs. Shyni Evangeline
  • A poem recitation by Mrs. Jeeva, Staff Nurse
  • Fun activities and interactive sessions for participants

Prizes and certificates were distributed to competition winners, encouraging active participation.


Conclusion

Tea and cake were served to all attendees, and pens were distributed to all women employees of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust as a token of appreciation.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Juhin, Nursing Tutor, followed by the National Anthem at 4:45 p.m.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of empowering women, promoting equality, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
