World Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025

Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing actively observed World Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Pink Month) throughout October 2025, as part of a global effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and promote early detection.


Significance of the Month

October is recognized worldwide as Pink Month, dedicated to educating the public about breast cancer, including its early signs and symptoms, importance of timely diagnosis, and preventive measures. The initiative aims to empower individuals with knowledge and encourage proactive health-seeking behaviour.


Programme Highlights

As part of the month-long initiative, a series of awareness programmes were organized by the college.

On 6th and 7th October 2025, awareness sessions were conducted at Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital under the guidance of:

  • Dr. Maya Gopal, M.D., D.N.B (Obstetrics & Gynaecology)
  • Dr. Nithila C., M.B.B.S., M.D (General Surgery)

The sessions began around 10:00 a.m. and were conducted among outpatients in the Gynaecology and Paediatrics Departments.

B.Sc. Nursing IV Semester students actively participated by delivering PowerPoint presentations to educate patients and attendants about:

  • Early identification of breast cancer
  • Common signs and symptoms
  • Preventive measures and screening importance

Pamphlets were also distributed to reinforce awareness and provide easy-to-understand health information.


Conclusion

The initiative successfully enhanced awareness among the public and encouraged early detection practices. The programme reflected the institution’s commitment to community health education and preventive care.
