Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing proudly celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2025 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, marking a significant occasion during the Diamond Jubilee year of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust.
The programme commenced at 8:30 a.m. with a prayer song and Tamil Thai Vazhthu rendered by the JCON Choir, invoking blessings for the nation. This was followed by a Bible reading led by Mr. Jegan and an opening prayer offered by Mrs. Hepzi Harareet D, DNS–JMT, seeking peace and prosperity for the country.
The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Ashiba Dollin L, Assistant Professor, JCON, who extended a warm greeting to the dignitaries, staff, and students. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Devaprasad Jeyasekharan, Trustee of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, who highlighted the significance of Independence Day and encouraged all to uphold the values of unity, service, and national responsibility.
A key highlight of the celebration was the flag hoisting ceremony, conducted by Major General Mrs. Ignatius D. Flora along with the trustees. This was followed by the national pledge led by Lt. Col. Mrs. G. Vanammal, Nursing Superintendent, JMT.
Dr. Sarayu Priya, Principal, JCON, introduced the Chief Guest, who then delivered an inspiring address emphasizing patriotism, selfless service, and nation-building.
An engaging Independence Day speech was delivered by Ms. Alin Reshma, DGNM II Year student, who eloquently reflected on the sacrifices and achievements of India’s freedom fighters. Students from the Allied Health Sciences departments (OTAT, DT, and CT) presented a patriotic song, adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration.
The programme also featured a prize distribution ceremony conducted by Mrs. Jasmin Diyana, Professor, JCON, recognizing the accomplishments of students.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Ramya R, Nursing Tutor, JCON, expressing sincere appreciation to all dignitaries, faculty, students, and staff for their contributions.
The celebration instilled a deep sense of patriotism and national pride among all present, making it a memorable occasion in the institution’s Diamond Jubilee year.
