The JMT College of Nursing commemorated World Patient Safety Day with a meaningful programme held at the Hospital Auditorium, centred on the global theme, “Working Together to Make Health Care Safer.”
The event began with a prayer song by the JMT College Choir, setting a reflective and purposeful tone for the occasion. Dr. Sarayu Priya, Principal and Head of the Department of Paediatric Nursing, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm greeting to the dignitaries, faculty, and students.
Trustees and administrators offered felicitations, commending the nursing department for its commitment to promoting patient safety awareness. The theme of the day was formally introduced by Dr. Thiraviam Mohan, Head of the Department and Senior Consultant in Paediatrics, who highlighted the critical importance of patient safety practices—especially in paediatric care—and emphasized the role of teamwork in minimizing medical errors.
Further insights were shared by Dr. Gopal Subramaniam, Senior Consultant in Paediatrics, who outlined the objectives and global significance of World Patient Safety Day, reinforcing the need to reduce avoidable harm in healthcare settings.
An informative session on “Working Together to Make Health Care Safer” was presented by Mrs. Anugen, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, and Mrs. Maria Lisha, Patient Safety Officer. They discussed practical strategies for implementing safety protocols and fostering a culture of safety among healthcare professionals.
The programme also featured an experience-sharing session, where Mrs. Sheela, Paediatric Ward Administrator, spoke about real-world practices and challenges in maintaining patient safety within clinical settings.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, Vice Principal, who expressed sincere appreciation to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. The programme ended with the National Anthem rendered by the JMT College Choir.
