The Vascular Access Workshop was a comprehensive and informative event held on 24.03.2024 at the Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences Auditorium. The program was meticulously planned and covered various aspects of vascular access in dialysis. It was organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences.
The workshop began with registration from 8:30 am to 9:00 am, followed by a session on “Vascular Anatomy & Types of Vascular Access” from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, delivered by Dr. Arun Varghese T., Assistant Professor of Nephrology, Kanyakumari Government Medical College. He was later honored with a certificate and a complimentary gift by Dr. Devaprasath Jeyasekharan.
The inauguration ceremony commenced at 10:00 am with a prayer song by the college choir. A warm welcome address was then given by the Course Coordinator, Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, during which each dignitary was presented with a flower bouquet. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the kuthuvilakku by the dignitaries, along with staff and students of the College of Allied Health Sciences.
Dr. Devaprasath Jeyasekharan, Trustee, delivered the keynote address, followed by felicitations from Dr. Renu Devaprasath, Medical Administrator, and Mrs. Beena Sabu, Correspondent. During the inaugural session, Dr. Devaprasath Jeyasekharan also presided over the prize distribution for competitions (Poster, Painting, Vegetable Carving, and Rangoli) conducted on behalf of World Kidney Day on 07.03.2024 at the college auditorium. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Banupriya, Dialysis Technology Tutor.
Following a refreshment break from 10:30 am to 10:45 am, the scientific sessions continued. Topics included:
- “Vascular Mapping” by Dr. Geo Naveen Jude, Consultant Anaesthesiologist, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home (10:45 – 11:30 am)
- “Access Planning & Creation, AVF Cannulation, and Complications” by Dr. K. Rajesh, Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home (11:30 am – 12:30 pm)
- “Perm Cath & CAPD” by Dr. Ninoo George, Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home (12:30 – 1:15 pm)
After the lunch break (1:15 – 2:00 pm), sessions resumed with:
- “Infection Control in Dialysis” by Dr. Aneeta Alexis, Consultant Microbiologist (2:00 – 2:45 pm)
- “Machine Troubleshooting for Access Dysfunction During Dialysis and Interventions” by Ms. Alshamol, Dialysis Tutor, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences (2:50 – 3:20 pm)
All resource persons were presented with certificates and gifts in recognition of their valuable contributions.
A demonstration and hands-on session followed from 3:20 pm to 4:45 pm across five stations:
- Cannulation Techniques – Mrs. Subila Jasphin, In-charge, Dialysis Department, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home
- Use of Vascular Access Materials – Mr. Abin, Lecturer, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences
- RO Plant Maintenance – Mr. Senthil Kumar, Engineer, Alliance, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home
- Dialysis Machines – Mr. Babu Murugesan, Technical Service Manager, B Braun Medical Pvt. Ltd.
- Dialysate and Consumables – Mr. N. R. Selvam, Sales Manager, RM IWIN Medical Agencies
The moderators of these sessions were also honored with gifts by the dignitaries.
The valedictory function began at 5:00 pm with a prayer song by the college choir and a welcome dance by the college dance troupe. Welcome addresses were delivered by Mrs. Leethial and Course Coordinator Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, followed by the distribution of certificates. Felicitations were given by Dr. Ninoo George, Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Alsha, Dialysis Tutor, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences, and ended with the National Anthem.
The workshop was a resounding success, providing an enriching learning experience for all participants and showcasing the dedication and expertise of both the speakers and the organizers.
