International Women’s Day 2022

International Women’s Day 2022 was celebrated on 8th March 2022 at the Auditorium, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home. The celebration brought together staff, students, nurses, and doctors to reflect on the importance of women in society and healthcare.

Inaugural Session

The program began at 10:00 am with a prayer song by the teaching faculty of Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, followed by a welcome address by Mrs. Blessy. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Devaprasath Jeyasekharan, who emphasized the importance of Women’s Day and the role of women in building society. Dr. Renu Devaprasath felicitated the gathering.

The Master of Ceremony was handled by Mr. Vinish Kumar and Mrs. Alwin Viji, faculty of the College of Nursing. Approximately 150 members participated in the event, including staff and students from various academic entities, staff nurses, and doctors. Dr. Maya Gopal also graced the occasion with her presence.

Special Address

A Women’s Day special message was delivered by Dr. Sanjana, MBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Consultant Psychiatrist,who highlighted the importance of women’s psychological health through balanced lifestyle practices such as nutritious food, moderate exercise, adequate sleep, and stress reduction.

Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan further spoke about the significance of women, paying tribute to Mrs. Rani Jeyasekharan,who supported Dr. N.D. Jeyasekharan in the establishment and growth of the hospital.

Cultural Performances

  • A dance performance by students of the College of Allied Health Sciences depicted the bravery and strength of women.
  • A skit “விடியாத இரவுகள்” was performed by staff and students of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. It included a presentation on Savitribai Phule, a mime, and a group song, portraying themes such as the importance of education, family, responsible use of social media, and the courage of women.

Messages & Pledge

Women’s Day wishes shared by Dr. Sudha Seshayyan, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, and Mrs. Kiran Bedi were projected and conveyed to the audience.

A collective Women’s Day Pledge was taken by all the women participants, led by Dr. Sarayu Priya, Principal, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing.

Honoring Women in Service

Two staff nurses, Mrs. Jeeva and Mrs. Vilcy, were honored for their active participation in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. They were awarded certificates of appreciation and mementos issued by the Nagercoil City Municipal Corporation.

Faculty and students of the College of Nursing who also contributed to the vaccination campaign were recognized with certificates and mementos, distributed by Dr. Renu Devaprasath and Mrs. Beena Sabu.

Conclusion

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Leena Paul Manohar. The program concluded with the National Anthem led by the teaching faculty of the College of Nursing. Tea and biscuits were served to all attendees.

The celebration of International Women’s Day 2022 was inspiring and meaningful, recognizing the contributions of women while emphasizing the importance of gender equality for a sustainable future.
