Theme: “My Health, My Right”
World Health Day is celebrated annually on 7th April to raise awareness about global health issues and to highlight the importance of overall wellbeing. The World Health Organization chose “My Health, My Right” as the theme for 2024, focusing on the fundamental human right to access quality healthcare, education, and information.
Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing and Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust jointly celebrated World Health Day on 6th April 2024 with a series of awareness activities.
Morning Session – Rally & Awareness Activities
The day began at 8:00 am with a Voting Awareness Rally conducted in collaboration with JCI Kaliyakkavilai, Y’s Men’s Marthandam Kings, and Rotary Club of Mathiramanis. The rally started from the Collectorate and concluded at Dr. JMT, flagged off by officials from Dr. JMT and the Manager of the Transport Department. Around 200 participants enthusiastically joined the rally.
At the Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust campus, students formed the shape of a voting symbol and collectively recited the Voters’ Pledge. Under the leadership of Dr. Sarayu Priya M., Principal, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing,and Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan, Trustee, the significance of voting was highlighted. Students of the College of Nursing also expressed their views on the importance of voting.
As part of the World Health Day observance, a Traditional Food Carnival Competition was conducted for the students of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, promoting awareness of healthy food practices.
Auditorium Session – Main Program
The World Health Day meeting began at 12:00 noon in the Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust Auditorium with a prayer song by the College Choir. Dr. Golden Catherine, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, welcomed the gathering.
The Presidential Address and Theme Unveiling were delivered by Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan, Trustee. This was followed by the Chief Guest Address by Dr. Suresh Balan, who explained the significance of World Health Day. He was honored with a gift by Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan.
The World Health Day Pledge was narrated by Dr. Sarayu Priya M., Principal, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing. Winners of the competitions were awarded prizes and certificates. Mr. Binni, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, delivered the Vote of Thanks. To conclude, signatures were obtained from participants as a commitment to follow healthy lifestyle practices.
The program ended at 1:15 pm with the National Anthem.
The celebration was meaningful and impactful, combining awareness on health rights with civic responsibility, and encouraging students and staff to adopt healthier practices in daily life.
