The Indian Organ Donation Day was celebrated at Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home, OPD Section, on 3rd August 2023 to create awareness about organ donation. The program was organized by Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home in collaboration with the College of Allied Health Sciences.
Morning Session – OPD Awareness Programs
The awareness program began at 10:30 am with an introductory speech by Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan, Trustee, MD (General Medicine), who spoke on organ donation and its importance. His motivational address was highly informative and beneficial to the OPD patients.
This was followed by a health talk on “Organ Transplantation & Organ Donation” at 10:35 am, presented to both Adult and Pediatric OPD patients by Mr. Anish (B.Sc. Dialysis Technology I Year) and Ms. Nithya (B.Sc. Dialysis Technology III Year).
At 11:00 am, a puppet show on organ donation (Tholpava Koothu – Leather Puppetry) was performed by Kalaimamani B. Muthuchandiran and his team. Puppetry, a traditional art form combining live music and storytelling, proved to be both entertaining and impactful, successfully capturing the attention of the audience and conveying the message of organ donation in a unique way.
Competitions – Awareness Among College Students
To raise awareness among students, several competitions were organized on 28th July 2023 by the College of Allied Health Sciences:
- Poster Making Competition – Theme: “Life is a Gift… Pass It On”
- Pot Painting Competition – Theme: “Share Your Life”
- Rangoli Competition – Theme: “Life Can Begin After Death”
The competitions were held under the guidance of Dr. Ninoo George, MD, DM (Nephrology), Consultant Nephrologist. Certificates and cash prizes for the winners, along with participation certificates for all active participants, were scheduled to be distributed during the upcoming Independence Day program.
Conclusion
Trustees, administrators, doctors, heads of departments, hospital staff, and students of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust participated enthusiastically in the Indian Organ Donation Day celebration. Tea and biscuits were served to all attendees, and the program concluded at 12:00 noon.
