National Newborn week – “Safety, Quality and nurturing care – Birth Right of Every Newborn 

November 17th -World Prematurity Day 2023 is “Small actions, BIG IMPACT: Immediate skin-to-skin care for every baby everywhere.”


DAY 1: ROLE PLAY AND VIDEO DEMONSTRATION

In commemoration of “New-born week– 2023, On 17th A video demonstration was a role play enacted by B.Sc Nursing III year students, & II year DGNM students and it was focused on Care of preterm babies and Kangaroo Mother Care to create awareness for Postnatal Mothers at Paediatric OPD, paediatric wards and postnatal ward(down stair) coordinated by Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing and Paediatric department of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust. The doubts of the participants were clarified. Around 40 members benefited from this.

DAY 2: HEALTH TALK

On 18th November a awareness programme was conducted by Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing and Paediatric department of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust in a form of health talk using poster and PowerPoint presentation to create awareness on Benefits of Breast Feeding, Common problems in breast feeding and about Human Milk Banking, in Post Natal Ward (Down stair) by B.Sc Nursing III year students, & II year DGNM students. Nearly 25 beneficiaries participated in the presentation and gained knowledge on Benefits of Breast Feeding, Common problems in breast feeding. Audience questions were clarified.

DAY 3: EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

On 20th November an educational programme was arranged for our Nursing Students at Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing Auditorium, which was emphasized on Care of Preterm Babies and Kangaroo Mother Care. The class was taken by Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Neonatologist, KMCH, and Consultant at Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust. 40 students attended the class. At the end of the class questions were raised to the students and they were appreciated.

DAY 4: QUIZ

Paediatric department of Dr.Jeyasekharan Medical Trust organized a Quiz programme for our B.Sc Nursing III year students & II year DGNM students. The core concept to promote, protect and support Preterm New-borns. The page2image4870272were divided into five groups and each group has 2 students as participants. All 4 rounds were highly informative and interactive, students participated enthusiastically. They gained adequate knowledge. The winner group was appreciated.
