World Heart Day was celebrated at Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home on Friday, 29th September 2023, with the theme “Use Heart; Know Heart.” The program was organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences to create awareness about cardiovascular disease and its prevention.
Morning Session – OPD Awareness Program
The awareness program began at 11:00 am with an introductory speech by Mrs. S. Jeyalakshmi, Vice Principal, College of Nursing, and Course Coordinator, College of Allied Health Sciences. This was followed by a health talk on “Prevention of Coronary Artery Diseases” presented to OPD patients by B.Sc. Cardiac Technology III Year students Ms. Wiselin Roshika and Ms. Kaniska Viji.
Auditorium Session
The program in the auditorium commenced at 12:00 noon with a prayer song by the college choir, followed by a welcome address delivered by Ms. Lalitha, Lecturer, College of Allied Health Sciences. The dignitaries then lighted the kuthuvilakku.
The World Heart Day theme was unfolded by Dr. Chandra Kumar Immanuel, MD, DM (Cardiology), Interventional Cardiologist, who emphasized the importance of heart health in his informative address. This was followed by a World Heart Day message from Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan, Trustee, Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, who highlighted the significance of celebrating World Heart Day and shared a valuable take-home message for the audience.
Subsequently, a series of health presentations related to heart health were delivered:
- “Use Heart, Know Heart” – Dr. Sabareesh, MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
- Heart-Healthy Activities – Dr. Subbian, MBBS, MD (PMR)
- Heart-Healthy Diets – Mr. Johny Bright, M.Sc. Nutrition, Dietician
Competitions
To promote awareness among students, several competitions were conducted on 27th September 2023 by the College of Allied Health Sciences:
- Poster Making Competition – Theme: “Active Living for Heart Health”
- Best out of Waste Competition – Theme: “Heart”
- Model Making Competition – Theme: “Circulatory System”
Certificates and cash prizes were distributed to the winners, while all active participants received certificates of participation.
Conclusion
On this occasion, Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan (Trustee), Mrs. Beena Sabu (Correspondent), Dr. Chandra Kumar Immanuel (Interventional Cardiologist), Dr. Nishal Perumal (Consultant Anaesthesiologist), Dr. Sabareesh (General Medicine), Dr. Subbian (PMR), Mrs. Jeyalakshmi (Vice Principal, CON & Course Coordinator, CAHS), Mrs. Vannammal (Nursing Superintendent), doctors, heads of departments, hospital staff, and students of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust College of Allied Health Sciences & College of Nursing participated enthusiastically in the celebration.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Paul Jason, Tutor, College of Allied Health Sciences, followed by the National Anthem.
