World Hypertension Day 2024 was observed by Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing with a series of programs to raise public awareness on the prevention of lifelong complications and acute cardiovascular events, as hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death due to cardiovascular disease.

10th – 15th June 2024 | Hypertension Survey

A hypertension survey was conducted at hospitals, railway stations, and community areas. The team, led by Mr. Binni, M.Sc (N), Prof. Hepsi Beulah A., M.Sc (N), Ms. Arul Sheeha, M.Sc (N), and others, carried out screenings that included height, weight, BMI, and blood pressure measurements.

Approximately 1,190 people were surveyed. Each participant was updated about their health status personally, and health talks were provided on lifestyle modifications, prevention of hypertension, and dietary plans (DASH diet).

12th June 2024 | Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)

A CNE session was conducted by Ms. S. Annlin Smila, M.Sc (N), covering subtopics such as incidence, modifiable and non-modifiable factors, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic features, and management modalities of hypertension.

Around 35 staff nurses of Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home participated in this program, gaining detailed insights into hypertension care and management.

12th June 2024 | Student Competitions

Competitions including quiz, slogan writing, poster painting, and mime were organized by Ms. Ramya, B.Sc (N).Prizes were distributed to the winners to encourage participation. Students took part actively, demonstrating their creativity and awareness.

World Hypertension Day Pledge was collectively recited by staff nurses, students, and members of the public, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining personal health and spreading awareness to others.

The week-long observance of World Hypertension Day was highly impactful, combining community outreach, professional education, and student engagement to promote the importance of monitoring and controlling blood pressure.
