WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK – 2024

Theme: “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All”

World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated from 1st to 7th August 2024 by Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing with the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All.” DGNM II Year students actively participated in a variety of awareness activities throughout the week.

01st, 02nd, and 07th August 2024 – Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital

Group health education sessions were conducted for antenatal and postnatal mothers in the Main OPD and Pediatric OPD. Special talks on the importance and benefits of breastfeeding were delivered by Dr. Maya Gopal and Mrs. Lincy. Pamphlets were distributed, and PowerPoint presentations with demonstrations were used to clarify mothers’ doubts. The sessions were highly interactive, and mothers responded positively.

03rd August 2024 – Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital Auditorium

A group health education program was organized for antenatal mothers. The session was well received, and participants benefited from the discussions.

05th August 2024 – Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital

Individual health education was given to antenatal and postnatal mothers in the Downstairs section and Anisha Block, ensuring personalized attention and awareness.

06th August 2024 – Primary Health Centre, Vadasery

A community awareness program was organized at PHC Vadasery. Dr. Ajay Manju, Medical Officer, delivered the introductory talk on breastfeeding, followed by a health education session on its importance and health benefits. Nearly 20 mothers benefited from this program.

The week-long observance of World Breastfeeding Week was impactful, promoting awareness on breastfeeding and empowering mothers with knowledge and confidence to adopt healthy practices.
