Leprosy Eradication Day was observed on 30th January 2025 by Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, coinciding with India’s annual commemoration on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary. The day highlighted the theme “Unite. Act. Eliminate.” to emphasize collective action, awareness, and the elimination of stigma surrounding leprosy.
Quiz Competition Achievement – 26.01.2025
Prior to the observance, a Quiz Competition was organized by the Deputy Director of Medical Services (Leprosy) at Kanyakumari Medical College, Muttom. Representing the college, Ms. Jersilin and Ms. Subha Shree (B.Sc. Nursing students) secured third prize at the district level, bringing recognition to the institution.
Awareness Skit – 30.01.2025
As part of the observance, 30 B.Sc. Nursing V Semester students visited the Primary Health Centre, Vadasery. An awareness skit was performed for the public, covering:
- Stigma and misconceptions about leprosy
- Early signs and symptoms
- Importance of timely diagnosis and treatment
- Availability of free treatment and cure
- Government support and benefits for affected individuals
The skit effectively communicated the message of “Unite. Act. Eliminate.” and encouraged social acceptance of those affected by leprosy. The performance was well received by the audience and successfully contributed to raising community awareness.
