INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS – 2024

Theme: “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide”

The International Day of Older Persons was observed on 1st October 2024 with the theme “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide.” To mark the occasion, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing organized a visit to St. Joseph Old Age Home, Pilankalai, led by B.Sc. Nursing III Year students.

The Old Age Home houses approximately 80 elders, with an equal number of male and female residents. The program was anchored by Ms. Kesheya (B.Sc. Nursing III Year) and began with a prayer song and Bible reading.

Activities Conducted

The students organized various engaging activities for the elders, including:

  • Games
  • Singing
  • Dancing
  • Role Play

The elders also actively participated by singing, dancing, playing games, and storytelling, which created a joyful and interactive atmosphere.

The program concluded at 11:30 am with a Vote of Thanks.

The visit was a heartwarming experience that emphasized the importance of caring for and supporting older persons, bringing smiles and comfort to the residents of the home.
